A legendary history. After centuries of producing beer for the royals, in 1828 the Hofbräuhaus was opened to the public by King Ludwig I of Bavaria. The beer hall quickly became the centre of public and political life in Munich, counting famous names such as Mozart and Lenin amongst its regular customers.
No reservations necessary here, just take a seat wherever you please! In the historic Schwemme, or tavern, extending over the entire ground floor of Hofbräuhaus and in the Beergarden the following applies: Just sit down with us! Reservations are only possible on the second floor, in our beautiful Bräustüberl.
In fact, six of the eight Hofbräuhaus locations open in the United States are brewpubs. It features a Bier Hall and Biergarten with a minimum seating capacity of 500 and boasts an estimated annual guest volume of over 250,000.
3500 seats, more than 400 knuckles of pork a day, gallons of beer and an annual turnover of more than 50 million euros. For 400 years, the Hofbräuhaus in Munich has been a supreme gastronomic institution. The owner of this money maker with a total of 13 franchise outlets is actually the Free State of Bavaria.
Visiting Munich and not visiting the Hofbrauhaus is like visiting Egypt and not seeing the pyramids! This is a must-do experience in Munich. Food is decent, atmosphere is awesome!
Hofbräu literally means “the court's brewery.” Hofbräu is the name of several breweries in the German-speaking countries that were at some point in their history official purveyors of beer to the court or owned by the court.
To visit the Hofbräuhaus, you should feel free to walk in and take pictures any time of any day, or use the lavatory in the back. There is no fee for either and tourists do this all day long. If you want to sit for a drink and/or food, you can sit down at any table with an opening large enough for your party.
The tables in the Schwemme (tavern) and the Wirtsgarden (beer garden) on the ground floor accommodate up to 1,500 guests. Here we have free seating! Seat yourself at one of our large tables of 10! Feel free to pull up a chair and feel sincerely welcome!
Bavarian tradition prepared by master hands all homemade at the Hofbräuhaus. Popular classics like roast pork, pork knuckle, suckling pig, sausages, liver dumplings, sauerkraut, our vegetarian cheese spaetzle, and all soups and sauces are freshly prepared daily by our own butchers and kitchen masters.
The Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München (State Brewery in Munich, also Hofbräu München) is a brewery in Munich, Germany, owned by the Bavarian state government. The Hof (court) comes from the brewery's history as a royal brewery in the Kingdom of Bavaria.
A chain of Hofbräuhaus taverns in Germany and overseas (as well as a chain of brewpubs that brew Hofbräuhaus beers under license in the United States) was launched in 2000. Several purveyors of beer to the Bavarian court have called themselves “Hofbräu” since the 15th century.
Munich has a long brewing tradition: As early as 1487, Duke Albrecht IV issued the Munich Purity Law, stipulating that only hops, water and malt were permitted as ingredients in Munich beer. Even today, a world-famous beer is brewed from pure natural raw materials according to an old traditional recipe.
Our age-old tradition of beer tokens lives on! In remembrance of the tokens used by ancient courtiers to pay for their beer, Hofbräuhaus's own currency has been reintroduced. One beer token is equivalent to a liter of beer.
The city has several of the largest breweries in Germany and is famous for its beer and its annual Oktoberfest celebration. Munich is a major tourist destination and a convention centre.
Meissen is famous for the manufacture of porcelain (production dates from the early 18th century), based on extensive local deposits of china clay (kaolin) and potter's clay (potter's earth). Other ceramics are also manufactured, and wine is produced.
The term "beer capital Munich" refers to the city of Munich in Germany, which is renowned for its rich beer culture and tradition. Munich is often regarded as the beer capital due to its famous beer gardens, historic breweries, and the annual Oktoberfest celebration.
The Siegestor (English: Victory Gate) in Munich is a three-arched memorial arch, crowned with a statue of Bavaria with a lion-quadriga. The monument was originally dedicated to the glory of the Bavarian army. Since its restoration following World War II, it now stands as a reminder to peace.
